We went to see the Bayeux Tapestry today. An absolutely fascinating relic--ca. 1070--commemorating the battle of Hastings, 1066, and justifying the victor (of course), William the Conqueror. The latter achieved a considerable improvement in name, having been referred to before as William the Bastard.
